Troop 116 needs your help!
Boy Scouting is for adults as well as boys. We invite you to
share your skills and interests so the best possible program can be developed for the Boy Scouts in
Troop 116. The Troop 116 Committee wishes to find ways you can enjoy using your talents
to help our Scouts. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated. Download the SURVEY HERE, print, fill out and return to an Adult Leader at the next Troop meeting.
Rank Advancement
As part of our commitment to you and your son, the other boys in the Troop will spend the first year guiding him through the ranks of Scout, Tenderfoot, Second Class, & First Class. At the weekly Troop meetings your son will learn the skills needed to achieve each rank. It would be a good idea for you to review this information with him because he will be tested on the material.
Scout
As part of the requirements for your son to become a "Scout" he must complete the exercises in Section II of this pamphlet
How to Protect Your Children From Child Abuse: A Parent's Guide
You may download a copy by using the link.
Tenderfoot - Second Class - First Class
By attending the weekly Troop meetings, and any Troop camp outs, your son will advance quickly through the ranks. To aid in his learning we have provided Pod Casts for each of the requirements for each of the ranks through First Class. These are meant as an ADDITION to the training your son will receive at meetings and camp outs not as a replacement to his participation.
You can find links to the Pod Casts on the BSA Website here. When the page loads you can select either the image of the Tenderfoot, Second Class, or First Class badge and then select the appropriate Requirement.
Merit Badges
Until a boy reaches the rank of FIRST CLASS we discourage him from working on Merit Badges (unless he is attending Summer Camp or Scouting University). There will be plenty of time for him to earn Merit Badges beginning in his second year.
Scout Law
What does the Scout Law really mean? Believe it! Live it! A video well worth watching. Watch it on Scout Tube Here
