Skull Creek Grafffiti Service Project

ANTHONY REYES Northwest Arkansas Times
From right, Blake Meldrum, 12, Ben Heil, 12, and other members of Boy Scout Troop 116 work to paint over graffiti on a wall off Skull Creek Trail north of North Street Wednesday in Fayetteville. The Scouts are working on accumulating service project hours to earn an Honor Patrol Award. The boys picked this project because of the wall’s visibility from the trail and the paint was donated by Lowe’s.

Habitat For Humanity

We had a great turn out form our scouts. Drew and Kelin Lee, Mr. Lee, Sam and Mr. Scalise, Jonathan Willitts , Philip  and myself all were at the store and helped by selling raffle tickets and carrying some packages. I think it was great that the boys got to see first hand how this organization helps our community.

I also was talking with the director about their future projects and it seems there will be some opportunities for a couple of Eagle projects in the future. I want to thank all that were able to make it . It is such a great pleasure being able to be out in the community representing our troop with such a great group of boys.

Long earns Eagle Scout rank

Boy Scout Troop No. 116 announced that David Long of Fayetteville has earned the rank of Eagle Scout. Long is the son of Melanie and Scout Master Gordon Long.
He first joined Boy Scouting with troop No. 102 under the direction of Scout Master Lewis Vann and then with his father. David later joined troop No. 116 and worked with Scout Masters Tom Weishaar and Eric Heil. Long was inducted into the Order of the Arrow and completed the Triple Crown Award by attending all three BSA high adventure camps: Philmont, Sea Base and Boundary Waters. David has also earned 27 merit badges, six more than the required 21.
For his Eagle Scout project,David worked with the U.S. Forest Service to renovate the campsites at Shores Lake near Mulberry. He organized his troop, logging more than 190 volunteer hours to refurbish picnic tables, grills and fire rings.
David plans to major in mechanical engineering and minor in German at the University
of Arkansas this fall.
